The Theater Inside

Address: 12 N Eutaw St, Baltimore, MD 21201

The Baltimore City Hippodrome Theatre opened in 1914 on the Eutaw House building site. It originally showcased movies and a mix of burlesque comedy, music, and dance productions. Live music would be orchestrated during the movies using piano, an organ, and many other instruments. Extraordinary musicians have performed here like Frank Sinatra and the Harry James’ band. Later in 2004, the theatre was restored at The France-Merrick Performing Arts Center. Today there is also the Hippodrome Foundation which funds theater and music classes for Baltimore’s community. Attending the Hippodrome is a must when visiting Baltimore City due to the beautiful architecture, lively plays, and notable history.
